Things to Do
Ritsurin Garden

This daimyo strolling garden with ponds, designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, is famed for its “a different view at every step.” The garden features famous spots such as Hiraisho and Kikugetsu-tei, along with elegant and refined landscaping and teahouses, making it perfect for a relaxing pre-race stroll or for enjoying matcha and Japanese sweets after the race. The park’s 6 ponds and 13 artificial hills intertwine to showcase different seasonal scenery throughout the year. If time and weather permit, consider taking a ride on the traditional wooden boat “Senshumaru” on the South Lake to experience the beauty of an Edo-period garden.
Takamatsu Castle

Located beside Takamatsu Port and close to Takamatsu Station and the race venue, Takamatsu Castle is one of Japan’s rare and famous water castles that directly draws seawater into its moat, making it ideal for a short visit during your free time before the race. The grounds preserve valuable historical structures such as Tsukimi Yagura and Mizute Gomon, and you can also enjoy the unique experience of feeding sea bream in the moat while observing seawater fish swimming in the castle moat up close. If you visit in spring, you can also admire the breathtaking cherry blossoms in full bloom, making it one of Takamatsu’s must-visit cherry blossom spots.
Yashima

Located on a lava plateau in eastern Takamatsu City, Yashima offers superb panoramic views overlooking downtown Takamatsu and the many islands of the Seto Inland Sea. At the summit is the boldly designed panoramic exhibition hall “Yashimarl,” where you can take in the seamless scenery of sea and sky. During your visit, you can also try kawarake-nage, the custom of throwing small clay discs for blessings and warding off bad luck, and pray for a smooth finish in the upcoming marathon.
Yashima-ji Temple

Located at the summit of Yashima, Yashima-ji Temple is the 84th temple of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage and has a history of more than a thousand years. The temple preserves many important cultural properties and is famous for its connection to the Genpei War and the worship of Tanuki Daimyojin, making it an ancient temple and scenic site not to be missed when visiting Yashima.
