2027 Kyoto Marathon ( 2027 京都マラソン ) is one of Japan’s most iconic sightseeing-style races, centered around the eco-friendly theme “DO YOU KYOTO?” and the spirit that “everyone is the main character.” The course takes runners through this thousand-year-old ancient capital, passing multiple World Cultural Heritage sites such as Tenryu-ji Temple and Kinkaku-ji Temple. Starting from Nishikyogoku Athletic Park, runners can enjoy views of Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama, the tranquil Kamo River riverbanks, and the famous mountains of the “Gozan no Okuribi” in the distance, before crossing the finish line in front of the magnificent Heian-jingu Shrine. • Up to 5 full-width characters (Kanji, Hiragana, Katakana, or alphabet letters).
• If only alphabet letters or Arabic numerals are entered, up to 10 half-width characters are allowed.

• If the number of characters entered exceeds the limit, it will not be printed on the bib. Please take note.

This design blends the popular sarasa style and distinctive patterns of the Kan’ei era, using Kyoto’s symbolic purple as the base tone.

During the Kan’ei era, after order was restored following war, society regained stability and a refined, elegant aesthetic flourished. Exotic designs, including printed cotton fabrics, were especially loved by people. This design reinterprets that brilliance and elegance in a modern way and incorporates it into the neck gaiter design commemorating the 400th anniversary of the imperial visit to Kyoto in the Kan’ei era.

From Kansai International Airport (関西国際空港), take the JR Haruka Limited Express to Kyoto Station (京都駅), then transfer to the Subway Karasuma Line to Shijo Station (四条駅). After exiting the station, walk about 7 minutes (500 meters) to arrive.

From Kansai International Airport (関西国際空港), take the JR Haruka Limited Express to Kyoto Station (京都駅), transfer to the JR Nara Line to Tofukuji Station (東福寺駅), then transfer to the Keihan Main Line to Gion-Shijo Station (祇園四条駅). After exiting the station, walk about 3 minutes (190 meters) to arrive.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple

One of the most famous World Heritage sites in the Kansai region and a Michelin three-star attraction, Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-dera Temple is supported by 139 interwoven wooden pillars beneath its famous stage. The main hall enshrines the Eleven-Headed Thousand-Armed Kannon. It is absolutely worth a visit when in Kyoto!

Nonomiya Shrine

Nonomiya Shrine is located in Sagano, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, Japan. It is a shrine believed to be especially effective for love and academic success, and it conveys the atmosphere of the Heian period through Japan’s oldest-style black wooden torii gate and brushwood fence. Legend says that if you touch the sacred Turtle Stone while making a sincere wish, your wish will come true within a year!

Fushimi Inari Shrine

This is the head shrine of Japan’s 30,000 Inari shrines and also a filming location for famous movies such as Memoirs of a Geisha and Detective Conan films. Inari is the Shinto deity of grains and food, overseeing abundant harvests, and foxes are regarded as the deity’s messengers. The grand shrine extends across the entire Mount Inari, with thousands of torii gates lining the path from the foot of the mountain to the summit. Fushimi Inari Taisha is famous for its torii gates, and both the main hall and the torii are unified in the same red color. Open free of charge all day, it is one of Kyoto’s favorite attractions for walkers and hikers.

【Race Rules】

■ Health and Safety

If an accident occurs during the race, the organizer will provide first aid and compensation within the scope of the insurance purchased by the organizer, but the organizer assumes no other responsibility beyond that. Participants are responsible for managing their own health. If you feel unwell on race day, please do not participate. Please undergo health checks in advance, such as a physical examination.

■ Runner Stoppage

In the event of an accident, fire, or other emergency during the race, emergency vehicles such as fire trucks and ambulances may need to pass through the course. In such cases, you may be asked to temporarily stop racing in accordance with staff instructions.

■ Costumes and similar attire are prohibited.

• As this race course includes some narrow sections, wearing unusual or extravagant costumes is prohibited in order to ensure participant safety.
• At the race venue (including on the course), it is not permitted to wear or display any designs or trademarks representing company names, product names, etc. for advertising purposes.

※ Please note that if the organizer determines that you have not complied with the above rules, you may be disqualified or your race participation may be terminated midway.

■ Portrait Rights

The organizer reserves the right to publish participants’ photos, images, articles, names, ages, addresses (country, prefecture, or city/town), and finish times during the race through television, newspapers, magazines, the internet, and other promotional media, and also reserves the right to use participants’ likenesses. In addition, the organizer may authorize the sale of photos and other related materials.

■ Personal Information Handling

The organizer will comply with the Personal Information Protection Act and related laws and regulations, as well as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and will handle personal information in accordance with the organizer’s personal information protection policy.
