Package Highlights
2027 Osaka Marathon is a premier large-scale city marathon in Japan, second only to the Tokyo Marathon, and is scheduled to take place grandly on February 28, attracting tens of thousands of runners from around the world. The course starts at Osaka Prefectural Government Building ( 大阪府庁前 ) and passes iconic landmarks such as Midosuji, Namba, and Kyocera Dome Osaka. The event is not only certified with a World Athletics Gold Label, but is also famous for the enthusiastic Kansai-dialect cheers from over a million spectators and abundant local food support stations. It is a major road race event that combines a high competitive standard with rich urban charm.
★One of Japan’s top 100 selected races and the largest marathon event in western Japan.
★A sightseeing city course showcasing Osaka’s landmarks: the route connects core attractions such as Osaka Castle, Dotonbori, Midosuji, and Kyocera Dome Osaka, allowing runners to take in both Osaka’s historic sites and modern streetscapes during the race, like a moving city tour.
★A flat and wide course, ideal for chasing a personal best: the overall elevation change is minimal, and the route is broad and straight, making it one of the target races for many runners aiming to set a new personal best (PB). It is also regarded as a high-level “fast course.”

Things to Do
Besides running, sightseeing is a must too~ The following attraction recommendations are for your reference when planning your free trip!
- Umeda

The Kita area (Umeda) refers to the area around JR Osaka Station and Umeda Station, and is one of Osaka’s representative bustling downtown districts. Examples include “GRAND FRONT Osaka,” which brings together around 260 shops; “Hankyu Department Store Umeda Main Store,” a long-established department store founded in 1929 and representative of Osaka; and the “Umeda Sky Building,” which features the Floating Garden Observatory. In addition, there is “Nakanoshima,” surrounded by clear river water and lush greenery, like an oasis in the city.
- Osaka Castle

Osaka Castle is one of Osaka’s most famous landmarks and also one of the most iconic castles in Japanese history. The castle was originally built in the 16th century by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Although the original castle has undergone multiple reconstructions and repairs throughout history, the current structure still beautifully showcases the appearance of an ancient Japanese castle. Visitors can go up to the observation deck at the top of the castle to enjoy panoramic views of Osaka City. Inside the castle, there are also many exhibitions related to the castle’s history and the Sengoku period.
- Shinsaibashi

Shinsaibashi is one of Osaka’s liveliest shopping districts. The Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street here stretches for 580 meters and is lined on both sides with all kinds of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Whether you are looking for fashion brands or affordable trendy items, you can find them here. Besides shopping, Shinsaibashi is also famous for its diverse food scene, with local specialties such as takoyaki and okonomiyaki. The street atmosphere here is full of energy, making it perfect for shopping while enjoying delicious food.
- Dotonbori

Dotonbori is one of Osaka’s most iconic entertainment districts, known for its dazzling neon lights and unique snack culture. Its signature billboards, such as the giant Glico running man sign, have become symbols of Osaka. As you stroll along the Dotonbori Canal, you will find many distinctive restaurants and street food stalls offering local delicacies such as takoyaki and okonomiyaki. ▶ What Do You Need to Prepare for 【 2027 Osaka Marathon 】 Race Entry + 2-Night Stay?

■ Clothing: Breathable, quick-dry running gear, plus sun protection or a windbreaker depending on the season
■ Fuel: Energy gels, salt tabs, energy bars — refuel as needed during the race!
■ Extras: Grab an eSIM so you can stay connected the whole trip
▶ How Should You Take Energy Gels During an AsiaYo Full/Half Marathon?
AsiaYo's runner tips on energy gel timing:
- Energy gels are the most common and effective on-course fuel for half and full marathons, helping runners maintain blood sugar and stave off fatigue during long-distance running.
- A good rule of thumb: take one gel about 30 minutes before the race, then keep it consistent with another gel roughly every 45 minutes (or every 10K) during the race.
- Always wash it down with water to avoid stomach upset, nausea, or diarrhea — and skip pairing it with sports drinks, which can push your sugar intake too high.
- If you're using caffeinated gels, save them for the back half of the race (around the last 7K of a half, or after 30K in a full) for a boost in focus and to fight fatigue — don't rely on them the whole way through.
▶ Where Are the Hotels in the Marathon Packages Located — Are They Close to the Start/Finish Line?
AsiaYo's marathon package hotel selection strategy puts runners first. Here's what we prioritize:
- Hotels near the start or finish line, so you don't have to wake up in the dark before the race and can get back to rest quickly afterward.
- Transit hubs (like near subway stations or train stations), making it easy to get to the Expo or explore the city.
- Some races offer an early-morning race-day shuttle as an add-on — and we make sure our hotels are located close to those shuttle pickup points whenever possible!
▶ What Is "Marathon Race-cation" (Marathon Travel)?
A "marathon race-cation" combines a marathon or road race with local sightseeing. With AsiaYo, you can handle race entry, accommodation, and transportation all in one place — making it easy to plan free time after the race to explore nearby attractions and try local food.

Overseas runners typically get direct entry through:
- Charity entries, which usually require a donation — though the minimum donation isn't exactly low

▶ Which Japan Winter Marathons Are Best for Chasing a PB?
Japan's winter season (December–March) brings cool, dry weather — prime conditions for marathon running and ideal for long-distance racing. Here are some flat, well-known PB-friendly races in Japan:
- Kobe Marathon: Held every November. The finish line was moved to Kobe Meriken Park, making the course overall flatter and faster, with gorgeous coastal views!
- Tokyo New Year Half Marathon: Held every January. Nearly the entire course is flat with no sharp turns — the riverside route can get a bit windy at times, but if you avoid strong headwinds, it's a near-perfect race for chasing a PB!
- Osaka Marathon (coming soon for 2027): Held every February. Wide roads with almost no long climbs, plenty of pacers, and plenty of Osaka specialties like takoyaki at the aid stations!
- Himeji Castle Marathon (coming soon for 2027): Held every February. Some uphill early on, but flat and gently downhill in the back half — a hidden gem many local Japanese runners swear by for PBs!
- Nagoya Women's Marathon (coming soon for 2027): Held every March. A straight, mostly flat course with very little elevation change — great for a strong performance!
