The Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Marathon is known as "Korea’s most beautiful race," a spring celebration with a course stretching along Bomun Lake, allowing you to run through a dreamy pink cherry blossom tunnel and enjoy the moving sight of petals drifting in the wind. Gyeongju is known as "a museum without walls," so while running, you can also take in the charm of this thousand-year-old ancient capital. ■ Flying from Taiwan to the local airport

It is recommended to fly to Busan Gimhae International Airport. There are direct flights from both Taoyuan Airport (TPE) and Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH).

Note: Although Gyeongju also has nearby airports such as Daegu Airport and Ulsan Airport, Busan offers the most flight options and the most complete transportation connections.

■ Busan Gimhae International Airport ↔️ The K Hotel GyeongJu

Take the intercity bus from Gimhae Airport to Gyeongju and get off at Gyeongju Station.

→ From the platform opposite Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal, transfer to bus No. 100-1 or No. 10 (about 30 minutes) and get off at Hilton Hotel, then walk 5–8 minutes (500 meters) to reach The K Hotel GyeongJu.

→ From KTX Gyeongju Station, take bus No. 710 and get off in front of The K Hotel GyeongJu.

■ The K Hotel GyeongJu ↔️ Race Venue (Bodeok-dong Administrative Welfare Center (보덕동 행정복지센터))

It is about a 10-minute walk (650 meters) to the race venue (Bodeok-dong Administrative Welfare Center (보덕동 행정복지센터)).

■ Busan Gimhae International Airport ↔️ Swiss Rosen Hotel

Take the intercity bus from Gimhae Airport to Gyeongju and get off at Gyeongju Station.

→ From the platform opposite Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal or the platform opposite the Intercity Bus Terminal, take bus No. 10, 16, 18, or 700 and get off at "Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Bureau," then walk about 10 minutes (555 meters) to arrive.

■ Swiss Rosen Hotel ↔️ Race Venue (Bodeok-dong Administrative Welfare Center (보덕동 행정복지센터))

■ Sunset from a rooftop café on Hwangridan-gil

A few years ago, young people began flocking to the Hwangnam-dong area, where many souvenir shops, independent bookstores, trinket shops, stylish cafés, and restaurants gathered to form a thriving neighborhood. Hwangridan-gil has become a must-visit destination for travelers to Gyeongju. From Naenam Intersection to the Five Royal Tombs, various shops line both sides of Geumseong-ro. In recent years, this area has expanded into the alleys, and many charming cafés, restaurants, and experience shops have appeared throughout Hwangnam-dong and Sajong-dong. If you happen to come across a rooftop café while strolling along Hwangridan-gil in the evening, take a moment to enjoy the sunset, as the evening glow turns the hanok houses of Hwangnam-dong a deep crimson. Hwangridan-gil is adjacent to Daereungwon, so building heights are restricted under the Cultural Heritage Protection Act. Although there are not many high-rise buildings, even low-rise buildings offer rooftop views with stunning alley scenery.

■ Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond

This can be said to be the most beautiful night view in Gyeongju. According to the Samguk Sagi, in the 14th year of King Munmu (674 AD), a pond was dug within the palace, planted with flowers and trees, and stocked with rare birds and animals. This is the story of Donggung Palace, where the Silla crown prince resided, and Wolji Pond, shaped like the sea. You may be more familiar with the name "Anapji." During the Joseon Dynasty, this site was called "Anapji" because flocks of geese and ducks lived in the pond. In 2011, it was renamed "Donggung Wolji." Today, the Donggung Wolji complex includes the restored Imhaejeon Hall (once a banquet hall for officials’ audiences), its annex buildings, and Wolji Pond itself. Wolji Pond is 200 meters long east to west and 180 meters wide north to south, with a straight southwestern side and a winding northeastern side. As a result, the entire pond cannot be seen from any single angle, creating the illusion of a boundless sea. It is a representative masterpiece of Silla garden architecture. When night falls over Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, visitors can admire the beautiful reflection of Imhaejeon Hall in the pond.

■ Jungang Market Night Market

After enjoying the night view and dinner, you can walk to Jungang Market, a paradise for late-night snacks. Jungang Market is some distance from Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, so if you still have energy, we recommend walking there. If you feel tired, public transportation is recommended. Jungang Market is one of Gyeongju’s most representative markets, with a history of more than 100 years. Locals call Seongdong Market near Gyeongju Station the "upper market" and Jungang Market the "lower market." These two markets are considered the twin pillars of Gyeongju’s traditional markets. Before officially becoming a permanent market in 1983, Jungang Market operated for many years as a five-day market and later built a new structure at its current location. Although it is now a permanent market, the culture of the five-day market remains, and the market is still bustling on the last days ending in 2 and 7 each month.

Today, Jungang Market is especially lively at night. The night market was selected in the "2016 Night Market Competition" hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Its special feature is an arcade built along the north side of the market, housing about 20 hanok-style stalls selling a variety of foods. Dining tables are also set up in front of the stalls for customers’ convenience. For those who have spent a long night exploring Gyeongju, late-night snacks are calorie-free and the perfect choice. After a long night in Gyeongju, stop by Jungang Market and fill your empty stomach with delicious food.

[Visa]

Travelers entering and leaving Korea with a Taiwan passport are visa-exempt, but the passport must be valid for more than 6 months and must include the Republic of China national ID number. Travelers holding foreign passports should check for themselves whether a visa is required.

■ Participant Health Condition

Depending on your personal health condition, there is a risk of injury or even death in this race.

Although the organizer has made full preparations, including purchasing event insurance and arranging medical staff and ambulances, participants must still assess their own health condition to ensure they are able to participate safely and avoid accidents. -

Participants must undergo a health check at a medical institution or other relevant organization before the race and make the final decision on whether to participate. 

If you experience any physical abnormality or emergency during the race, please stop immediately and seek assistance from the medical team or event staff. 

As no compensation will be provided beyond the scope of insurance coverage, please be sure to purchase personal accident insurance or similar coverage to protect your own safety.

■ Insurance Information

All participants in the 33rd Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Marathon are required to purchase event insurance.

The organizer is not responsible for any losses exceeding the coverage of the event insurance.

For your own safety, please purchase personal accident insurance.

■ Participant Ambulance Usage Guidelines

The race committee will deploy ambulances along the course and at the finish line to respond to emergencies. In emergency situations such as difficulty breathing, heart problems, full-body convulsions, bleeding, or fractures, on-site medical staff may decide at their discretion whether transportation service will be provided. For minor conditions such as localized cramping or excessive fatigue, please take the shuttle bus after receiving initial treatment.

■ Changing Rooms and Baggage Storage Area

For participants’ convenience, changing rooms and storage facilities will be available in the assembly area.

Please keep your tag safe when storing items and retrieve your belongings after the event ends.

Participants are advised to remain vigilant and not bring cash or valuables other than daily necessities. 

■ Timing Chip for Record Measurement

The timing method used is net time, measured from the moment you cross the starting line.

After receiving your race pack, please immediately check whether your bib number and chip are complete. If there are any issues, be sure to contact the office.

The timing chip is attached to the back of the bib. Please note the following: timing chips are provided only for the half marathon and 10 km race, and are not provided for the 5 km race.

-Do not bend or remove the timing chip.

-To receive your official record, you must wear the bib with the chip correctly. (Be sure to wear it clearly visible on the outside of your chest.)

-After receiving your bib, please immediately check whether the chip is properly attached to the back of the bib. If it is not attached, be sure to contact the office.

-This chip is for one-time use only and does not need to be returned.

■ Disqualification

To ensure the smooth running of the 33rd Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Marathon, transferring race eligibility or having someone else run on your behalf is not allowed.

Any act of changing race eligibility or having someone else run on your behalf will result in disqualification.

In addition, any cheating that interferes with or obstructs the accurate evaluation of race results, such as wearing another person’s timing chip, will not be recognized.

Not wearing a bib, altering a bib, wearing a bib arbitrarily on race day, or wearing multiple timing chips will all result in disqualification by event staff.

■ Consent to Personal Information and Portrait Rights Usage

To ensure the safe and smooth operation of the race, the race committee collects and uses personal information in accordance with Article 31, Paragraph 1 of the Personal Information Protection Act.

The information collected includes: name, date of birth, race category, address, contact information, email address, etc.

The purposes of use include: identity verification, prize distribution, release of event information, etc.

The period of use and retention is: from the date of registration until 1 year after the race end date.

Portrait rights to photos, videos, and other materials taken during the race belong to the Gyeongju City Sports Association and the race organizing committee, and may be used for race promotion without further notice or compensation.
