Itinerary Overview

✨World-class finisher glory: The event is best known for its finisher medal made from "Nambu Tekki," an important Japanese intangible cultural heritage craft. With its solid cast-iron texture and traditional artisan design, it is praised in the running world as the "heaviest" collectible treasure.

✨A brand-new flat course made for PBs: The new route adopted in 2026 greatly reduces elevation changes, keeping the total elevation difference within 20 meters throughout the course, while also reducing turns and turnaround points. It is an excellent stage for runners chasing their Personal Best (PB).

✨Rich local food culture support: The course aid stations are full of surprises, allowing runners to sample Morioka specialties, including famous sweets and soba noodles, while experiencing the warm hospitality of local residents and the area's deep historical charm.

Things to Do

While you're here for the run, don't miss the chance to enjoy the area's beautiful local sights!

Morioka Castle Ruins Park (Iwate Park)

Morioka Castle began construction in 1597 as the residence of the Nambu family, lords of the Morioka Domain. Later, in 1906 (Meiji 39), it was personally designed by Yasubei Nagaoka, known as a pioneer of modern parks, and developed into what is now Morioka Castle Ruins Park (Iwate Park). In addition to being designated a National Historic Site as the "Morioka Castle Ruins," it has also been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Castles and one of Japan's Top 100 Historical Parks.

Address: 1-37 Uchimaru, Morioka, Iwate Prefecture

Morioka Hachimangu Shrine

Morioka Hachimangu Shrine is the largest shrine in the prefecture and is said to have been built in 1680 by Nambu Shigenobu, the third lord of the Morioka Domain in Mutsu. The grounds contain 12 shrines, enshrining deities closely connected to daily life, including agriculture, commerce, industry, learning, food, clothing, housing, and transportation.

After being rebuilt many times following the Great Morioka Fire of 1884 and damage from wind and snow, the current shrine building was newly reconstructed in 1997. The grand shrine hall is painted in vivid vermilion and carved with paulownia flowers, known as the prefectural flower, earning it the nickname "the face of Morioka."

Address: 13-1 Hachimacho, Morioka, Iwate Prefecture

Malios Observation Deck

The Malios Observation Deck is a 3-minute walk from the west exit of Morioka Station and is located on the top floor of Morioka's landmark building, the "Malios" tower. Standing 92 meters tall, Malios is the tallest skyscraper in northern Tohoku. During Christmas, the Malios building transforms into a stage for light displays, adding brilliant winter colors to Morioka.

The observation deck is free to enter and has benches where you can relax while enjoying views of Morioka's cityscape with the Kitakami River and Shizukuishi River flowing through it, as well as the seasonal beauty of Mt. Iwate and Mt. Himekami, both among Japan's famous mountains.

Address: MALIOS 20F, 2-9-1 Morioka Ekimae Nishi-dori, Morioka, Iwate Prefecture

Kaiunbashi Bridge

Kaiunbashi Bridge is located near JR Morioka Station. Spanning the Kitakami River that flows through Morioka City, it is an important bridge connecting Morioka Station and the city center, which are separated by the river.

The first Kaiunbashi Bridge was built in 1890 (Meiji 23), while the current third-generation Kaiunbashi Bridge was built in 1953 (Showa 28).

The bridge has gone through dark green and white color periods, and is now painted a soft pale blue.

The core factors come down to "bundling guaranteed race entry with a complete trip package" and "flexibility for friends and family to join." The industry standard is AsiaYo's one-stop solution:

  • Guaranteed race entry: Official bib allocation means you skip the lottery and lock in your spot.
  • Runner-friendly accommodation: Handpicked hotels near the race venue, so you skip the commute hassle and can focus on chasing your PB.
  • Flexible group options: An exclusive "double room + single race entry" combo, so friends and family can tag along even if they're not racing.
  • Post-race travel add-ons: Add transit tickets and day tours all on the same platform — race entry, accommodation, and sightseeing sorted in one go.
  • Book now: Check out the highly-rated AsiaYo Sports Travel Packages today!
