Set off on the Camino, a once-in-a-lifetime journey

With the widespread popularity of films and books, the Camino has gradually become well known among savvy travelers. However, the full 800-kilometer route is a major challenge in both planning and physical endurance. The good news is that many of our tour leaders are Camino veterans who have completed the route themselves. Drawing on extensive firsthand scouting experience, we decided to create a highlights version of the Camino that is accessible to the general public!

To us, the hardest part of travel is always getting started. As long as you want to walk, leave the troublesome details to us.

/ Trip Features /

  1. A 115-kilometer walking journey: Carefully selected highlights from Sarria to Santiago, challenging enough to feel rewarding but still achievable, even for non-professional hikers.
  2. Put down your suitcase: Professional travelers will teach you how to pack and help you become a true "backpacker" in no time. Letting go is also an important part of this journey.
  3. A foodie paradise on foot: The route runs through Galicia, one of Spain's major farming and livestock regions, where delicious tomahawk steak, tender octopus, and fresh fruits and vegetables await along the way.

Trip highlight: Pilgrim Passport Credencial

Hundreds of years ago, medieval pilgrims traveled the Camino with a pass. Today, walkers set off with a pilgrim passport instead. This booklet is used to collect stamps, and once you fill it with stamps from the final 100 kilometers, you can exchange it in Santiago for a pilgrim certificate, leaving you with a meaningful keepsake from this rare journey.

※ Passport version is subject to what is distributed on site.

Thoughtfully arranged: Quality guesthouses

To walk far, proper rest is essential! Instead of staying in albergues, this itinerary upgrades your stay to twin-share rooms to ensure better sleep quality.

※ Along the route, accommodations are mostly local-style guesthouses or simple inns, where one double bed, two single beds, or shared bathrooms are common. We prioritize "convenient location" and "clean environment" to ensure that after each day's walk, you have a comfortable place to rest. While not luxurious, these stays are enough to let you experience the pure rhythm of the journey and the authentic daily life of small European towns.

Trip highlight: In-depth visits to traditional Spanish towns

On foot, you will reach medieval towns and charming villages that are difficult to access by public transportation. On this walking journey, you will have the chance to venture deep into the Spanish countryside, stay in warm and welcoming guesthouses full of local character, and enjoy authentic country-style cuisine and wine. At the slow pace unique to walking, you will connect with local life and deeply experience the traditional lifestyle and culture of pilgrims. Forget checklist-style travel. The Camino may seem simple on the surface, but in reality it is incredibly rich and rewarding.

Buen Camino, may your journey be safe

Starting from Sarria, the meeting point of the "French Way" and the "Northern Way," today you will officially set foot on this ancient route with a thousand years of history. Along the way, you will encounter a wall of blessings covered in well wishes from around the world — Buen Camino (have a good journey), the special greeting of the Camino. When you meet fellow travelers, don't forget to share these words: Buen Camino, may your pilgrimage go smoothly all the way.

A bridge every pilgrim must cross: the stone steps and Capela das Neves Church

Passing through forest paths, traditional granaries, and small towns, you will finally climb the stone steps converted from a medieval bridge. Congratulations — this is tonight's destination. Portomarín is an important stop on the Camino, and at its most prosperous, it was once guarded by three orders of knights. Due to repeated flooding, the town was relocated brick by brick and rebuilt at its current site in the 1960s. Today, the remains of the original Roman-era settlement can only be seen when the water level is low.

Stroll through Portomarín

Portomarín is said to be one of the most beautiful towns on the French Way, with lovely scenery along the waterfront. If you still have energy, take a walk around town, visit the churches and sights, and savor the simple beauty of the Spanish countryside. The thousand-year culture and historical depth of the Camino are all hidden within these seemingly ordinary landscapes.

Travelers of the world, all roads lead to one destination

The yellow arrow and scallop shell are the iconic symbols of the Camino. Legend says that when the boat carrying the body of Saint James came ashore, someone accidentally fell into the sea but did not sink because they were surrounded by scallop shells. Since then, the shell has become a protective symbol of the Way of Saint James. The Camino emblem also developed from the shell, with its radiating lines converging at one point symbolizing that no matter where pilgrims come from or which route they take, they will all ultimately arrive together in Santiago.

Heading to Palas de Rei

This morning we will cross the Miño, the longest river in Galicia, and climb Sierra Ligonde, a broad-view ridge that was once an ancient Moorish battlefield. Passing several charming villages and Romanesque churches, we will finally make our way through forest trails to Palas de Rei.

Searching for your reason to walk

On the second day of the 20-kilometer challenge, when life is simplified to walking, eating, and sleeping, you may begin to ask yourself again and again: why am I walking this road? The Camino is not just a trip, but also a rare opportunity in modern busy life to slow down and have a deep conversation with yourself. Everyone finds a different answer on the Camino, and we look forward to hearing yours.

Only by learning to let go can you go farther

Cruz de Ferro, the Iron Cross, is one of the Camino's most famous landmarks. Traditionally, pilgrims bring a small stone from home and "leave it behind" at the Iron Cross, symbolizing the release of life's obsessions, burdens on the heart, and all unhappy memories of the past. Only by learning to let go can you go farther. From here on, try moving toward the finish line with a lighter heart.

Stories along the way

As you walk the Camino, beyond the natural and cultural beauty, the stories of pilgrims are also highlights not to be missed. While busy taking one step after another, don't forget to look around and see what past pilgrims have left behind. Many Camino stories that are never written online are reserved only for those brave enough to set out.

Walking through beautiful scenery

After two days of warming up, this is the longest day of the route. We will set out early in the morning and begin walking surrounded by beautiful scenery, passing through woods, valleys, and churches as we make our way to today's destination, Arzúa!

Melide, the town of octopus

Melide is the meeting point of the Primitive Way and the French Way, as well as the geographical center of Galicia. The town is famous as the birthplace of octopus cuisine. Since we're here, lunch absolutely has to be the classic boiled octopus. Don't be fooled by its simple preparation — octopus seasoned with olive oil, sea salt, and paprika is considered by many travelers to be the most unforgettable taste of the Camino.

A little comfort for the soul is essential

After enjoying the octopus, it's time for cake and afternoon tea. On a long walking journey, you always need something to comfort the soul. Melide's most famous dessert is anise cake, so if you're feeling adventurous, give it a try. Of course, if you just want the classic chocolate flavor, that's perfectly fine too.

A mini supermarket celebration

After completing the 29-kilometer challenge, it's time to reward yourself a little. In the evening, the tour leader will take everyone to the supermarket for a shopping spree and a small celebration. Local wine and Arzúa's famous cheese are must-buys.

Q: What if I can't keep walking?

A: Before setting out on the Camino, many people worry most about what to do if they can't continue. Don't worry — we've thought of that too!

Since this is such a rare opportunity, of course we want you to do your best to achieve your goal. To help you complete the challenge, we specially assign expert tour leaders who have walked the full 800 kilometers. Drawing on their experience, they will help you solve any problems along the way and encourage you with stories when you feel like you can't go on. We also insist on traveling in small groups so members can build close bonds and become each other's companions and support.

If your physical condition truly doesn't allow it, the tour leader can also help you take a bus or call a car to the next stop at any time. Our thoughtful support and arrangements are all designed so you can walk with peace of mind from start to finish.

Farewell to Arzúa

Before leaving in the morning, take one last look back at Arzúa. At this point, you are already more than halfway through the hundred-kilometer Camino. Keep stepping forward with determination — the finish line is not far away.

Heading to O Pedrouzo

Here's some good news! The route to today's destination has very little elevation change. Compared with the challenges of the previous days, today you can walk more easily and fully enjoy the quiet beauty along the way.

The most familiar scenery

On the fourth day of the walking journey, the scallop shell symbol and yellow arrow signs have already become the most familiar sights. Yet every time you see them, you still can't help but take another photo. In the future, after the journey ends, these images — along with the fatigue and sweat along the way — will surely become sweet memories you will never forget.

A celebration before the finish line

Although you haven't officially reached the end yet, there's no such thing as too much celebrating. O Pedrouzo has a long-awaited large supermarket and all kinds of restaurants. Tonight, we will gather with pilgrims from around the world and feel the excitement and anticipation of nearing the finish line.

Santiago Cathedral

After passing Monte de Gozo, the joyful hill from which you can glimpse the cathedral spires, the long-awaited Cathedral of Santiago finally appears before your eyes. This church, filled with traces of history, is the resting place of Saint James and the shared final destination of all Camino routes. The hundred-kilometer journey may have seemed long, yet somehow the finish line has arrived before you know it. Take in your emotions in this moment — this feeling is the best proof that you have completed your personal challenge.

Mass and the incense burner

Weighing 53 kilograms, the giant incense burner is one of the largest in the world and one of Santiago Cathedral's most famous symbols. Since the Middle Ages, the cathedral has been known for the Botafumeiro swinging incense ritual. On one hand, it serves a religious purpose; on the other, it was also used as a form of fumigation (after all, medieval pilgrims did not have many comfortable inns along the way where they could bathe!). If we are lucky enough, we may have the chance to attend Mass and witness the swinging incense burner, experiencing this ancient tradition that has endured for a thousand years.

Camino souvenirs

After five days of walking, have you gained something from the journey? Many people who have walked the Camino say that before arriving in Santiago, they suddenly wish the road would never end. No matter why you came, the Camino has surely left an indelible mark on your heart. From here on, we don't need to walk anymore — so if you see any souvenirs you want, go ahead and buy them.

Joyful celebration dinner

In the evening, we will gather at a restaurant in Santiago to reward ourselves with a feast of delicious food and wine after these days of long walking, and to celebrate everyone's successful completion of the Camino de Santiago in Spain.

DAY 7
Itinerary Overview-day-7

Farewell: Santiago – Freely explore your next destination

After the journey: Camino keepsakes that preserve your memories

After finally walking the Camino, it's only natural to want to bring home a souvenir. Along the way, you'll come across all kinds of keepsakes bearing Camino symbols — maybe a tile, maybe a magnet, maybe a postcard, or something else entirely. Pick one that catches your eye and place it somewhere visible at home. The moment you see it, the memories of the journey will come rushing back.

After the journey: the pilgrim certificate that bears witness to your challenge

The second must-have Camino souvenir is undoubtedly the pilgrim certificate, which can only be obtained after completing more than 100 kilometers. It serves as proof, reminding you that you completed this challenge for yourself.

After the journey: new friends to explore the world with

Sometimes, souvenirs are not necessarily tangible things. Over these hundred-plus kilometers, you and the companions who set out together encouraged one another and shared your thoughts, with laughter, tears, and sweat along the way. These shared memories will create invisible bonds between you. Perhaps, on this journey, you may meet a friend for life.

After the journey: those Camino memories that belong only to you

As for the rest, you may only discover them once you set out yourself. The Camino is a deeply personal road, and different life experiences and different reasons for departure will bring completely different rewards to each traveler. Some things we cannot tell you now. But when you finally look back, we believe you will find your own reflections and answers.

FAQ

【A Little Camino Q&A】

  • Physical training before departure: It is recommended to exercise three times a week, 30 minutes each time, with a heart rate of 130. Start with a 5 km walking practice while carrying a 5 kg backpack, then after one week increase by 2 km and continue walking practice with the 5 kg backpack to build stamina.
  • How to choose suitable shoes: When buying hiking shoes, wear the wool socks you plan to use, and leave about one finger's width of space inside the shoe. Before walking, you can apply petroleum jelly to both feet.
  • How to prepare trail food: Each evening when you arrive at your town accommodation, you can buy supplies in town for the next day's trail food. You may prepare nuts, chocolate bars, fruit, or any foods you like. For water, carry about 1000cc per day. If you stop for a meal along the way, you can refill your water, or replenish it from natural water sources on the route if available.

※ The tour leader may adjust the itinerary order depending on the day's timing, weather, and external conditions.

※ Due to scheduling arrangements, our company reserves the right to change the assigned tour leader.

【Frequently Asked Q&A】

Q1: Can people without long-distance walking experience join?

This itinerary carefully selects the final 115-kilometer highlight section of the "French Way." Although you will need to walk about 20–30 km per day, the trail is well planned and the slopes are gentle. As long as you have a regular exercise habit or hiking experience and strengthen your walking training 2–3 months before departure, even non-professional walkers can complete it successfully. The tour leader will also accompany you throughout and provide advice on pacing your energy.

Q2: What if I run out of energy halfway and really can't keep walking?

Don't worry — transportation along the Camino is very convenient. If you feel unwell that day or do not have enough energy to complete the full route, the tour leader can help arrange a shuttle taxi or direct you to a bus stop so you can go ahead to the day's accommodation and rest.

※ Shuttle costs (taxi fare or bus ticket) must be paid on site by the traveler.

Q3: Do I need to carry my luggage for the full 115 km?

No. We advocate "traveling light" and recommend that travelers use the luggage transfer service. Each morning, leave your large suitcase at the guesthouse front desk, and a vehicle will deliver it to the next accommodation point (the delivery fee is about EUR 4 per piece each time). You only need to carry a small backpack of around 20L with your drinking water, trail food, rain gear, and important documents for the day.

Q4: What are the accommodations like? Do I need to stay in a large dormitory?

To ensure group members get adequate rest, this itinerary does not arrange stays in traditional pilgrim albergue dormitories. Throughout the trip, we arrange stays in quality local inns or cozy guesthouses (two people per room), providing clean, quiet, and private personal space.

Q5: How do I receive the pilgrim certificate (Compostela)?

As long as you complete the final 100 kilometers on foot and collect 2 stamps per day in your "pilgrim passport (Credencial)" (stamps can be obtained at churches, cafés, and guesthouses), once you arrive at Santiago Cathedral, the tour leader will assist everyone in going to the office to exchange it for the official completion certificate, leaving a lasting memory of this journey.

Q6: What is the local food like? Are vegetarian options available?

The route runs through Galicia, Spain's food paradise, where we will enjoy famous boiled octopus, tomahawk steak, and traditional pilgrim meals (usually including bread, soup, a main course, and dessert). If you have special dietary requirements, such as vegetarian meals, please be sure to let us know when registering. Most restaurants can provide basic vegetarian options.

Q7: If it rains, will the trip be canceled?

In principle, the Camino proceeds rain or shine. One of the spirits of the Camino is experiencing nature in all its forms. We strongly recommend preparing a high-quality "two-piece rain suit" or a waterproof breathable jacket (such as Gore-Tex). If extremely severe weather causes route closures, the tour leader will adjust the itinerary with safety as the top priority.

Q8: Will more detailed pre-departure advice be provided after registration?

Yes! Once the group is confirmed, a dedicated LINE group will be created. The tour leader will share a packing list, shoe recommendations, a physical training plan, and more in the group, and will also hold an online briefing session to answer all your questions so you can prepare with peace of mind.

Q9: Airfare is not included in the itinerary. How do I get to the starting point in Sarria on my own?

Sarria does not have an airport. The smoothest way to get there is to fly into Madrid MAD, then take the airport express or metro to Madrid-Chamartín train station, and transfer to a direct Renfe train to Sarria station. The train ride takes about 4–5 hours. Renfe schedules may change, so be sure to check train times before booking your flights.

Q10: If I join the group on the Camino, do I need to move together with everyone the whole time? I'm worried about walking too slowly and holding everyone back.

Not at all. One of the biggest taboos in walking is trying to match someone else's pace, as it can disrupt your breathing and even cause injury. Each evening, the expert tour leader will brief everyone on the next day's route, recommended supply points, and the location of the destination guesthouse. Once you set off during the day, you can walk entirely at your own pace. We operate in small in-depth groups of 6–12 people, giving you complete freedom. If you get tired, just stop for a coffee and meet up at the designated guesthouse in the evening.

Q11: Why do most lunches and dinners on the itinerary need to be arranged on my own?

Because everyone walks at a different pace. Forcing everyone to gather at noon would only make faster walkers wait around and slower walkers rush. In addition, Galicia is one of Spain's famous seafood and agricultural regions. Arranging your own meals allows you to freely choose between authentic boiled octopus, steak, or affordable pilgrim set meals, according to your own budget and preference. That is the most authentic local travel experience.

Q12: About how much local spending money should I prepare for these seven days? Can I use a credit card?

The main self-paid expenses along the way are daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast with coffee is about EUR 5–8, and a pilgrim set dinner is about EUR 15. Budgeting EUR 30–40 per day is more than enough, so bringing EUR 300 in cash for 7 days should suffice. Restaurants in larger cities usually accept credit cards, but small cafés along the route or places selling water often only take cash, so be sure to prepare plenty of small EUR 5 and EUR 10 bills.

Our packages are built around guaranteed race entry + handpicked accommodation. To give runners maximum flexibility (like arriving early or staying longer after the race to explore), flights typically aren't included — so you're free to pick whatever flight times and trip length work best for you.

▶ How's AsiaYo's Marathon Race Package Rated by Runners?

AsiaYo's marathon race packages — bundling guaranteed race entry with accommodation — have become a favorite among runners, earning top ratings and buzz across multiple social platforms as the go-to travel agency for race packages! With a 65% repeat booking rate site-wide, AsiaYo also holds the #1 market share among Taiwan OTAs for marathon packages, making it a true one-stop shop for race entry, accommodation, sightseeing itineraries, eSIM, and all your travel needs!

▶ Where's the best place to book marathon travel packages in 2026 — both in Taiwan and abroad?

The biggest challenges when planning an overseas race trip are usually the ultra-low race lottery odds and near-impossible hotel availability near the start line. That's why we strongly recommend booking through an officially authorized marathon travel package platform from the start.
Based on reviews across major running communities, AsiaYo is the top-recommended booking platform for 2026. As an official partner, AsiaYo offers the unbeatable advantage of no lottery required — guaranteed race entry. To date, they've helped over 3,500 runners successfully complete races abroad, and boast an impressive nearly 30% repeat booking rate. ▶ What Are the Core Criteria for Choosing a Travel Platform to Book International Marathons in 2026?

The core factors come down to "bundling guaranteed race entry with a complete trip package" and "flexibility for friends and family to join." The industry standard is AsiaYo's one-stop solution:

  • Guaranteed race entry: Official bib allocation means you skip the lottery and lock in your spot.
  • Runner-friendly accommodation: Handpicked hotels near the race venue, so you skip the commute hassle and can focus on chasing your PB.
  • Flexible group options: An exclusive "double room + single race entry" combo, so friends and family can tag along even if they're not racing.
  • Post-race travel add-ons: Add transit tickets and day tours all on the same platform — race entry, accommodation, and sightseeing sorted in one go.
  • Book now: Check out the highly-rated AsiaYo Sports Travel Packages today!
